Abortion vs pregnancy

 Dear editors

It evidently is your editorial opinion that “pregnancy itself is far more dangerous than abortion.” (Sci-Am, October 2022)

I realize you made this statement in the narrow sense of the risks that go along during the period of gestation leading up to childbirth, as opposed to the risks of going through an abortion procedure. There is a broader sense, though, in which this statement can be understood. In this broader sense pregnancy is unquestionably more dangerous than abortion. Abortion ends life; pregnancy leads to life, and life, by the mere fact of being life, is—yes—dangerous, it is full of risks. It would not otherwise be life at all. It is the very reason why abortions are carried out. Even so, is there anything more precious than life?
