The missing giftie

Heard, and saw, yesterday a couple of robins screeching and flying after a crow who had just snatched a tiny robin out of its nest. How terrible, I thought, that birds should do this to each other. Surely we wouldn’t do this, I was tempted to say. But then these lines from Robert Burns came to my mind:

O wad some Pow’r the giftie gie us
To see oursels as others see us!
It wad frae monie a blunder free us
An’ foolish notion…

Hard to argue against Burns’ sentiment, regardless of how it is expressed.

Magari ci desse qualche Potenza il dono
di vederci come gli altri ci vedono!
Ci terrebbe, ciò, lontani da tanti errori
e insulsaggini...

Se doma cualchi Potensa a ni fès il regàl
di podej viòdisi coma ch'i sìn viodùs daj àltris!
Cuant lìbars ch'i si sintarèsin da tanti monàdis
e idèis stùpidis...
