Poor. Mars, poor Earth

Just came across a strambolòt I had a few years ago:

News from the Martian rover:
There was life once on the red planet
And we all rejoice. How wonderful to know
that life exists elsewhere in the universe,
that Mars once teemed with life,
that it was as green and fruitful as the earth.
But Mars is now red and dust and barren.
Rejoice? Oh, let's not rejoice!
Let's instead recoil in horror
at what our earth will be
when our greed has finally
turned its greenness
Into a barren redness unfit
even for sagebrush and rattlers.
